PSV will have to do without Yorbe Vertessen in the coming weeks. The Belgian attacker was successfully operated on his appendix on Wednesday evening. Vertessen had to undergo surgery because of appendicitis.
The 21-year-old Vertessen is now home and has to rest for two weeks, PSV reports in a statement on Thursday declaration. If his recovery goes well, he may resume training.
Trainer Ruud van Nistelrooij, who took over from Roger Schmidt this summer, who left for Benfica, has one less option due to the absence of Vertessen for the busy weeks that await his team.
PSV plays four official matches in eleven days: the duel with Ajax for the Johan Cruijff Scale (Saturday), the diptych with AS Monaco in the third qualifying round of the Champions League (2 and 9 August) and the home match against FC Emmen in the Eredivisie (August 6).
Normally, Vertessen is not a basic player at PSV, but he is regularly used as a substitute. The youth international of Belgium played 42 official matches for the Eindhoven team last season. He scored nine times and provided five assists.
Vertessen made the switch to PSV at a young age, where he went through the youth academy. The attacker has been part of the A-selection since the beginning of 2021 and has a total of sixty official games behind his name for the cup holder.
Savio and Branthwaite are available
PSV can make use of the Brazilian attacker Sávio and the English defender Jarrad Branthwaite in the coming weeks. Both acquisitions are in possession of a work permit and the required papers.
Both players came on loan. Sávio came from the French Troyes, which is owned by the City Football Group. Branthwaite is under contract with Everton, the old club of Marcel Brands, the new general manager of PSV.
