England and the German soccer players have met nine times in major tournaments – the German team won the European Championship final in 2009, but recently there was a defeat.
The German national team played a total of 27 international matches against the “Lionesses”. The record: 21 wins, four draws, two defeats. There were nine duels at European and world championships, seven of which the DFB women won – including the EM final in 2009 with 6:2.
2015: Loss in World Cup match for 3rd place
However, Germany lost their last meeting in a major tournament: At the 2015 World Cup in Canada, Fara Williams decided the game for third place for the English women with a penalty in extra time. The German soccer team suffered their second defeat five months ago at the Arnold Clark Cup (1:3). Ellen White, Millie Bright and Fran Kirby scored for England and Lina Magull for Germany.
Victory at Wembley – Popp and Bühl scored
In the memorable first meeting at Wembley Stadium on November 9, 2019 in front of 77,768 spectators, the DFB team was again ahead. Alexandra Popp scored early in the friendly game to make it 1-0 (9th), after White’s equalizer (44th), Klara Bühl spoiled the English team’s party mood with the late 2:1 (90th).
