Former world footballer | Nadine Kessler: DFB team is “the big number here”

The UEFA official and former world soccer player Nadine Kessler sees the German soccer players as the greatest title contenders at the European Championship.

“I think anyone who has seen the German team has to honestly say that they are the top favourites,” said the 34-year-old in a ZDF interview ahead of the semi-final between France and the Netherlands on Saturday evening. The team of national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg is “really the big number here and it will be difficult to beat them.”

Kessler won the Champions League three times with VfL Wolfsburg and was European champion with the DFB team in 2013. Before the last week of the tournament in England, the head of the women’s football department of the European Football Union drew a very satisfied preliminary conclusion. “I think the EM sends a clear signal as to where we want to go.” The tournament is on a completely different level than the previous European Championships. “Now we’re looking forward to the last games and hope that this enthusiasm will really pick up speed again,” said Kessler.
