What will become of Jonas Michelbrink (21)?
A year ago, the talent traveled with the pros to the training camp in Austria – Michelbrink was absent from coach Sandro Schwarz’s (43) English preparatory camp.
The midfielder has no place in the large Hertha squad. According to reports, the club wants to give him up so that Michelbrink can gain match practice in the professional field. For those responsible, it is currently out of the question to let Michelbrink play another year in the regional league for Hertha’s U23 (last 31 games).
In terms of sustainable development, the right foot should get playing time at a higher level. Apparently there is interest in Michelbrink from several third division clubs as well as foreign first division clubs.
But there shouldn’t be a goodbye forever: those responsible are currently discussing a loan.
For this, Michelbrink’s contract would first have to be extended. A permanent departure of the talent (market value 500,000 euros) including a return option for Hertha would also be conceivable.
Michelbrink made his Bundesliga debut (two appearances) during the 2020/2021 season and signed a professional contract until 2023 in September. After that, he didn’t get a chance in the first team.
That should change now – with a new club for Michelbrink.
