Crevits compensates fishermen for high fuel prices
The war in Ukraine has made fuels much more expensive. Fishermen therefore found themselves in financial difficulties. Sailing out sometimes cost them more than staying ashore because they made more loss from expensive gas oil than profit from their fish. Other costs or investments in equipment such as fishing nets have also been endured.
Maximum amount
The Flemish government is now offering 600,000 euros to compensate the fishing industry for the higher costs of recent months. In this way, she wants the fishermen to “contribute to the continuity of the food supply”. The decision should also optimize the liquidity of the companies, i.e. the ability to repay short-term debts.
A fishing company is entitled to a maximum of 35,000 euros in aid. This compensation is a fixed amount per sailing day per vessel, so independent of the actual costs. This is a temporary and partial compensation that is part of the ‘Flemish Resilience’ plan to help our economy get back on track after the corona crisis.
