The series tells the history of the well-known stories from the books ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings’ by JRR Tolkien. “’The Rings of Power’ unites all the major stories of the Second Age of Middle-earth: the forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic tale of Numenor, and the final alliance of Elves and Men”, say producers JD Payne & Patrick McKay. “Until now, on-screen audiences have only seen the story of the One Ring – but before it was there, there were many… And we’re excited to share the story of all of them.”
The cast is partly made up of a group of local actors from New Zealand. The rest come from Australia, Sri Lanka, Great Britain and the United States. British comedians Lenny Henry and Peter Mullan, known for ‘Ozark’ and ‘Westworld’, play a role, among others.
The drama, which will run for several seasons, will premiere on September 2.
