EM 2022: DFB goalscorer leaves corona quarantine

With a bit of luck, the German soccer women can count on Lea Schüller again in the quarter-finals of the European Championship. The Bayern striker has her corona quarantine behind her.

Lea Schüller may be able to play again in the European Championship quarter-finals against Austria. According to DFB information on Monday, the 24-year-old striker from FC Bayern Munich tested negative for the first time since her positive corona test last Tuesday at the European Championship in England.

“I saw a very happy face this morning: Lea met me, thank God she’s finally negative,” said Joti Chatzialexiou, head of national teams at the German Football Association, at a DFB press conference. The next thing to do is a cardiology exam.

Chatzialexiou didn’t want to specify when Schüller will start training again and how high her chances of playing against Austria are on Thursday. “We will add Lea when she is really fit,” said the 46-year-old.

Popp warns of Austria

Schüller had been isolated at team headquarters in Brentford for the past few days. The top scorer (26 goals in 40 international matches) and Bundesliga top scorer last season (16 goals) missed both the 2-0 win against Spain and the 3-0 win against Finland in the first round.
