Spain’s footballers have reached the quarterfinals of the European Championship. The title candidate came to a late 1-0 (0-0) against Denmark in his last preliminary round match in London-Brentford.
Real Madrid’s Marta Cardona scored the goal in the 90th minute. But a draw would have been enough for Spain to progress.
Coach Jorge Vilda’s side are second in Group B behind Germany and meet hosts England on Wednesday. The Spaniards had initially beaten Finland 4-1 but lost 2-0 to Germany. Due to injuries, they will have to do without world footballer Alexia Putellas and goalscorer Jennifer Hermoso from FC Barcelona at the European Championship tournament.
