The warm weather last week caused the discussion to flare up again: are you allowed to wear shorts in Brabant? Readers voted en masse, almost 25,000 times, on a poll by Omroep Brabant. The outcome? Shorts are possible, but this depends on the work you do.
The discussion about whether you can wear shorts to work has completely erupted last week. To get a good idea of how Brabant now thinks about the shorts, Omroep Brabant decided to place a poll. The website and app asked: wear shorts at work when it’s so hot, what do you think? And this is the result:
- This depends on the type of work you do (56.9%)
- Yes, that should be possible (28.3%)
- Women can do that too, so why not men? (8.1%)
- No, this is really not possible (6.7%)
Before this poll appeared online, the discussion was already going on. On Thursday, Omroep Brabant published an article about shorts in the workplace: Going to work in your shorts on hot summer days: is that possible or not? After this article also appeared on social media, the discussion really started.

This is how Marijke reacts on Facebook, “Everyone should know for themselves what they like to wear in this weather. But I do think that you have to take into account the function that you have. Not everything is possible in shorts or skirts”
Others think it is also possible, but have different requirements. For example, Ellen thinks that men should not wear silly socks underneath. Kitty says it doesn’t have to be a “ass crawler.” Sven has a handy solution if you have a difficult chef. “Then you just put on a dress as a man, don’t you? Dissolved.”
Listeners Radio
The discussion broke out not only on social media. Also during the morning program Wakker! Omroep Brabant Radio was raging. A number of listeners thought it was impossible, but the majority agreed. It is possible, but not in every profession. To support the shorts wearers a bit, the program called for everyone to wear shorts on Friday. And that was done en masse.
Those photos were sent in en masse by the listeners. Erik Heirbaut also sent in his photo. It just didn’t stop there. Erik told me that he wears shorts all year round. Even when it snows outside and it is -10 degrees.
