European Championship | EM attendance record in England already broken

At the European Football Championship in England, a record number of viewers was set even before the last preliminary round.

The previous record of 240,045 fans at the EM 2017 in the Netherlands was surpassed, UEFA announced after the matches. There are still 15 games to play in this tournament.

The European Football Union expects well over half a million visitors at this European Championship. The spectator capacity of all games is 725,000. The opening match between England and Austria on July 6th at Manchester’s Old Trafford was watched by 68,671 fans. The final on July 31 at Wembley Stadium in London is sold out with around 90,000 spectators.

However, there is also clear criticism that some games are played in small arenas. This includes the Manchester City Academy Stadium with just 4400 seats. In addition, as in previous years, empty seats can be seen in the stadiums in big men’s tournaments when the games are sold out because the tickets purchased are not used.
