Green light for 75 social rental homes in the center of Meppel

75 social rental apartments will be built at the mulo location in the center of Meppel. Construction will start this fall and is expected to take a year and a half.

The location used to be a busy place with a gas factory, market halls and later the mulo. The future homes will be well insulated, will have solar panels and will be gas-free. Nijhuis Noord and housing corporation Actium are going to build the social rental apartments.

“We are pleased that we can add so many affordable rental homes in the center of Meppel. In this way we meet a large part of Meppel’s expansion needs,” says Rob Hoogeveen, Real Estate Manager at Actium.

The housing corporation and the municipality work together on the basis of so-called performance agreements. One of those agreements is that at least 70 percent of Actium’s homes in Meppel have a rental price that is affordable for people with lower incomes. The apartments to be built meet this requirement.
