Holiday starts in the north, busy roads expected | Inland

The North region includes the provinces of Groningen, Friesland, Drenthe, Overijssel and North Holland, almost all of Flevoland, the Gelderse Hattem and the Utrecht Eemnes. In the middle of the country, the holiday had already started last week. In the south, children have one last week of school ahead of them before they too can start their holiday.

The ANWB expects large crowds at Liège in Belgium. There the road is closed in both directions due to construction work on the E25. In France, traffic jams are expected on the Autoroute du Soleil, the highway from Paris to Lyon and Marseille on Saturday morning. The route A10/A63 Paris-Tours-Bordeaux to Spain fills up during the morning. In Germany and Austria, travelers should expect traffic jams around the cities of Hamburg, Munich and Salzburg. Work is underway at more than 900 locations. It can also get very busy on the road at the Gotthard tunnel in Switzerland and in the north of Italy.

At the end of August, children in the middle and north of the country go back to school, at the beginning of September the new school year starts in the south.
