FC Schalke 04 has overhauled its squad after being relegated to the Bundesliga. In addition to some permanent commitments, several loan players also found their way to Gelsenkirchen. One of them will probably stay with S04 beyond the summer.
For Marvin Pieringer, the move to FC Schalke 04 in the lower house is paying off more and more. The 22-year-old had little prospect of a breakthrough in professional football at SC Freiburg, so he wanted to take the next step in his development by staying with the relegated team.
Schalke 04 agreed a loan deal with SC Freiburg last summer with an obligation to buy, but this only applies once a certain number of appearances has been reached.
As “WAZNow reported, this mark will soon be reached. With “very high probability” Marvin Pieringer will therefore also be part of the squad of the Knappen in the 2022/23 season – regardless of whether promotion to the Bundesliga is successful or not.
Schalke boss Schröder: Pieringer must “confirm impression”
An amount of around 500,000 euros will change hands as a transfer fee. A comparatively low transfer fee given his only 22 years and his experience of 37 second division games (eight goals). Pieringer was previously loaned to the Würzburger Kickers from January to June 2021.
Alone: In the Schalke jersey, the right footer had only scored twice in 17 second division games so far. In the most recent 5-0 thrashing, he put in his best performance to date, scoring a goal and providing an assist.
S04 sports director Rouven Schröder then praised “WAZ”: “Marvin moved cleverly in the gaps and repeatedly shifted the game with his passes and thus opened it up. We are pleased that he was able to reward himself for his performance with his goal .”
Now the player who is still on loan has to “confirm the impression”, Schröder pointed out: “The competition is great, everyone wants playing time.”
