Tijs Velthuis will play on a rental basis at NAC Breda in the coming season. AZ rents the 20-year-old defender to the first divisionist, who has also agreed an option to buy.
“Tijs is a modern, football-playing defender with length,” says Eric Hellemons, technical director of NAC Breda. “He is tactically strong, plays disciplined in the service of the team. In addition, he has a good kicking technique, with which he can throw long and short balls away. With this skill, he can be important in the build-up phase.”
Velthuis came over from FC Twente in 2019 and then joined the Under 19. A year later he made his debut in the first division at AZ, where he was one of the captains last season. Velthuis played a total of 61 matches for Jong AZ in professional football.
Velthuis will play under coach Robert Molenaar at NAC Breda. The former trainer of FC Volendam has been at the helm since this summer. Last week strengthened NAC with Alex Platwho came over on a free transfer from FC Volendam.
