The wait was over in the early afternoon: Robert Lewandowski actually drove up to the FC Bayern site on Säbener Straße. He had previously completed the obligatory medical check-up.
Camera teams, journalists and lots of fans were stationed at the FC Bayern club premises on Säbener Strasse. No one wanted to miss out on Robert Lewandowski returning after his vacation, even if he would have preferred not to. The striker wants to go to FC Barcelona and has repeatedly expressed this with sometimes drastic statements in recent weeks.
The question was: will he ever come to Munich again? Or would he go on “strike”? There was already a partial answer on Monday evening when the 33-year-old landed in Munich and told the “Bild” newspaper that he was fine.
No strike: medical check and performance tests
On Tuesday morning, Lewandowski appeared as planned in the “Barmherzige Brüder” hospital in the Neuhausen-Nymphenburg district of Munichto undergo the mandatory medical checks. The next stop was Säbener Straße. More performance tests were pending here, and yes: with Lewandowski in the passenger seat, a dark limousine drove into the FC Bayern underground car park at 1:09 p.m. The fans who had been waiting were able to catch a glimpse of the world footballer. It got loud for a moment, but after a few seconds the spook was over.
Training on Wednesday probably with Lewandowski
After the professionally completed standard program, the super striker is expected to return to the Munich training ground on Wednesday, despite his great desire to move to FC Barcelona. That applies anyway to Manuel Neuer, Leroy Sané & Co., who, like Lewandowski, were also examined four days before the team presentation in the Allianz Arena.
It is quite possible that Lewandowski will not stay in Munich for long. Most recently, the world footballer wanted to force his intended move to FC Barcelona with clear words. “My story at Bayern is over. I can’t imagine another good partnership,” emphasized the striker.
Clarity up to the team presentation?
Such statements are the reason why BR24 sports reporter and FC Bayern expert Taufig Khalil expects the center forward to be sold this week: “They want to present their team on Saturday (from 2.55 p.m. on BR television and in the live stream on BR24 Sport). I can’t imagine the fans welcoming Lewandowski into the arena after all this spectacle. And on Monday the team flies to the USA, where they want the topic off the table.”
