On June 30, the court formally closed the investigation against G. and E.. Last week, however, the Public Prosecution Service sent new documents to the court and the lawyers of the suspects. It concerns statements from a protected witness, who is said to have told about possible commissioners of the murder.
The Public Prosecution Service only received the documents last week, the officer said. The Justice Department considered it necessary to send the package to the court and the lawyers, because they must be able to form their own opinion about its relevance. As far as the officer is concerned, they are not relevant to the judge’s decision on the criminal case against the two suspected executors. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the court can make a decision as planned on 14 July.

The contents of the new documents have not been disclosed. De Telegraaf revealed on Friday that the new witness ‘5089’ heard in April 2021 that a journalist was being hunted. It was about an ‘enemy of the chief’. The Polish man repeatedly mentions Ridouan Taghi in statements in this regard. He said he only realized later who was meant, when he heard that Peter R. de Vries had been shot. The Polish witness would have been shocked.
Taghi was sentenced to life imprisonment in that trial on June 28, because of his leading role in a series of other murder cases, according to justice. De Vries was an advisor to the crown witness in Marengo, Nabil B. In 2018, B.’s brother was shot dead, in 2019 his lawyer Derk Wiersum.
De Vries was shot in Amsterdam on 6 July last year and died nine days later. G. and E. were arrested shortly after the attack.
Last week it was announced that three new suspects had been arrested in the large-scale criminal investigation into the murder of De Vries. It concerns the 27-year-old Krystian M., who would have directed the two performers directly. In addition, two men were arrested on Curaçao and in Spain who allegedly made videos on the spot at the time of the assassination attempt to distribute them on social media.
