Collapsible piles must ensure that cars and trucks can no longer reach the center of Hoogeveen. This has been decided by the College of Mayor and Aldermen. With this, the municipality hopes to prevent nuisance from loading and unloading (freight) traffic.
At the end of this year, the posts will be placed in four locations, namely Van Echtenstraat, Grote Kerkstraat, Nicolaas Beetsstraat and Raadhuisstraat. In addition to the nuisance, it should also increase safety for pedestrians. The adjustments will cost the municipality more than two tons.
The traffic problems have already been denounced earlier this year. The CDA, Municipal Interests and the VVD have received complaints from local residents that unsafe and irresponsible situations occur in the center on shopping days. It was decided to clear the pedestrian zone from traffic. The poles are now an addition to that.
It is not only the supply of stores that has been causing problems for a long time. The coming and going of parcel services during the day also causes nuisance. The enforcement department has been hoping for measures for a long time. Because it would not be possible to maintain all day because of the high volume of car and freight traffic.
The council has previously indicated that large vehicles cause damage in the center. The shops in the city center should therefore be supplied as much as possible via the rear of the Hoofdstraat. Motorists with a disabled card are allowed to continue driving in the center every Tuesday between 09:00 and 14:00.
