France: ‘Love Brings Love’, Alber Elbaz at the Palais Galliera in Paris

‘Love Brings Love’ was the mantra of the late designer Alber Elbaz. This is also the name of the exhibition at Palais Galliera dedicated to the Israeli designer. All the designs presented at a fashion show honoring Elbaz last October can be seen here. The exhibition is supplemented by personal memories from companions who had a close relationship with Elbaz.

Last chance: ‘Love Brings Love’ will be on view at the Palais Galliera in Paris until July 10th.

France: La Galerie Dior, 30 avenue Montaigne in Paris

At 30 Avenue Montaigne, La Galerie Dior offers visitors the opportunity to discover thirteen themes that offer a unique insight into the history, heritage and DNA of Dior. The showrooms showcase the (miniature) creations of fashion designer and perfumer Christian Dior and the six creative minds who took over the couture house after him, including Yves Saint Laurent and Maria Grazia Chiuri. It also shows how Dior perfumes have evolved over time and how Dior creations have entered culture through Hollywood films.

France: ‘Alaïa Avant Alaïa’ at the Fondation Azzedine Alaïa, in Paris, France

The Tunisian designer’s former home and studio at the Fondation Azzedine Alaïa has become a place entirely dedicated to his legacy. In addition to his art collection, archives and library of books on fashion, art and design, the exhibition ‘Alaïa Avant Alaïa’ is now open. You can learn more about Alaïa through photos, drawings and a selection of designs. The focus is on the women who inspired him, including Greta Garbo, Naomi Campbell and Stephanie Seymour.

‘Alaïa Avant Alaïa’ is on view at the Fondation Azzedine Alaïa in Paris until October 23.

United Kingdom: ‘Fashioning Masculinities’ at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London

From the Gucci dress worn by Harry Styles as the first male cover star of US Vogue 2020, to a new take on the male body image, it’s all in the new exhibition: ‘Fashioning Masculinities: The Art of Menswear’ in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. The exhibition revolves around the power, craftsmanship and diversity of men’s fashion.

‘Fashioning Masculinities’ runs until November 6, 2022.

United Kingdom: ‘Africa Fashion’ at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London

The new ‘Africa Fashion’ exhibition at the V&A Museum in London showcases the “irresistible creativity, ingenuity and global influence of contemporary African fashion,” as it says.

The exhibition will be on view from July 2nd. The end date is not yet known.

United Kingdom: ‘Vision and Virtuosity’, Saatchi Gallery in London

This free exhibit from Tiffany’s jewelry brand features over 400 items from the archives and provides an insight into the history of the famous jewelry house since its founding in New York in 1837. The recently acquired Empire diamond of more than 80 carats, the famous Tiffany’s window displays and important elements of popular culture such as the original script of Breakfast at Tiffany’s are also given a special place in this exhibition.

The exhibition is open until August 19th.

United Kingdom: Bethany Williams: ‘Alternative Systems’, The Design Museum in London

This exhibition features the work of designer Bethany Williams. From garments made from recycled book waste to collaborations with local projects, the London-based designer’s work addresses social and environmental issues.

The exhibition is open until September 4, 2022.

Netherlands: ‘Fashion Week: A new Era’ – Fashion for Good Museum in Amsterdam

What do all the changes over the last few years tell us about the future of fashion and fashion weeks? The Fashion For Good Museum in Amsterdam answers these questions with its new exhibition ‘Fashion Week: A new Era’, in which it takes interested people through the past, present and future of fashion weeks.

The Design Museum in Den Bosch is showing a special exhibition about sneakers this year. ‘Sneakers Unboxed’ is the name of the theme and combines the history and cultural context of the sneaker with the latest innovations in design and sustainability.

Netherlands: ‘Colouring’ at the TextielMuseum in Tilburg in the Netherlands

The exhibition at the TextielMuseum in Tilburg shows both the dilemmas and the potential of dyed textiles. Contemporary innovations are contrasted with age-old traditions. Mud, weeds, bacteria, fungi and even urine are being studied as valuable sources of dyes. All senses are stimulated: visitors can feel, smell and even taste the alternative dye sources.

This exhibition runs until October 2, 2022.

‘Balenciaga – Masterful Black’ at the Art Museum in The Hague

In autumn 2022, the Art Museum in The Hague will honor the work of the Spanish fashion designer in this color with the exhibition ‘Balenciaga – Masterful Black’. More than a hundred pieces from the collections of France’s Palais Galliera and Maison Balenciaga can be seen in The Hague from September 24, 2022. It is the first time that such a wide range of Balenciaga works can be seen in the Netherlands.

Belgium: Kidorama in the Mode & Kant Museum in Brussels

The Mode & Kant Museum (Fashion & Lace Museum) in Brussels is spotlighting two hundred years of children’s fashion with its Kidorama exhibition. Using children’s fashion, the exhibition tells the story of the child and the development of its individuality. The overview is structured thematically and chronologically and focuses on fashion for children from the ages of zero to twelve.

The exhibition is open until March 5, 2023.

‘Tracing the Transformation of Kimono Fashion’ at the Met Museum in New York

At the Metropolitan Museum in New York, you can discover the evolution of the kimono between the eighteenth and twentieth centuries. ‘Tracing the Transformation of Kimono Fashion’ also offers a particular look at the relationship between Japanese and Western ideas about the kimono.

The exhibition can be visited until February 20, 2023.
