Piet Buter, former technical director of Telstar, suspects that he is the man accused of rape by Vera Pauw. In an interview with the AD says the Haarlem-born Buter that he had an affair with Pauw in the eighties, but denies that there was any question of rape.
“This comes like a bolt from the blue for me and my family,” says 73-year-old Buter, who was national coach of the Orange Women from 1987 to 1989. “If I’ve hurt someone, I’m very sorry. But what I’m hearing now. This just can’t be true. I’m not made that way. I’m really completely stunned.”
The 59-year-old Pauw played in the Orange squad between 1983 and 1998. In an interview with the NRC tells the Amsterdam woman that she was raped in 1986 by a high official in Dutch football. Pauw declined to name names.
Mutual agreement
Buter, who served as Telstar’s technical director from 2017 to 2019, admits there was an affair with Pauw, but also says he is “100,000 percent” sure nothing happened without mutual consent. Buter also states that he is willing to cooperate fully with the investigation.
