Twice Tahon in Menen: new work and permanent work

Tahon is from Menen and internationally renowned. This time he enters into a dialogue with Till Lindemann, the frontman of the German band Rammstein. Lindemann wrote five poems to accompany Tahon’s statues. Photographer Sandor Lubbe took photos and portraits during the collaboration, they are part of this exhibition.

Across the street from the city museum, you can dive into the cellar on the side wall of the De Steiger cultural center. There is now permanent work by Tahon in the art depot. Hundreds of images are stored in it that you can admire from behind the glass. Griet Vanryckegem, Alderman for culture Menen: “People can visit free of charge alone or in groups. Hear him speak in a documentary and also see his works in a varying whole. Immerse somewhere in Johan Tahon’s head.” (read more below the photo)

Tahon: “Really fantastic”

Chiel Vandenberghe, director of CC De Steiger: “The intention is that the depot continues to evolve. That new works are added or are featured theatrically. It is something that we can continue to use.”

And Johan Tahon, he is over the moon about the depot. “It’s not a depot, it’s become a museum. A small Tahon museum. I feel very honoured. Unbelievable, what a gift. Really fantastic.”

The exhibition ‘Wir Überleben das Licht’ in the city museum ‘t Schippershof in Menen can be seen until 31 August.
