The leaning power tower of Berlin-Spandau

Pedestrians with walkers or prams have to slalom around the crooked power box in the Borkzeile. It's temporary and will disappear completely in six weeks

Who builds something like that? Head shaking, amazement and anger at Spandau’s leaning power tower. Should it stay like this?

The new junction box in the Borkzeile is in the middle of the sidewalk, obstructing pedestrians, passers-by with prams or walkers.

It was set up there four weeks ago. Educator Marco R. (37) doesn’t find it funny: “It’s annoying when I have to slalom with the stroller.”

BZ asked Stromnetz Berlin. Spokesman Olaf Weidner: “In Borkzeile 11, a network station is being renovated. The cable distribution cabinet was initially temporarily installed within a somewhat larger construction site barrier so that the work in the network station could be carried out.”

Unfortunately, the renovation is delayed because the cable entries through the masonry in the network station have to be renewed. “However, the specialist company commissioned will not have free capacity for another six weeks,” says Weidner.

And so that the residents do not have to live with an open construction site during this time, the hole was closed and a temporary power distributor was set up. However, why it has to be so crooked and in the middle of the way remains a mystery.

The good news: The BZ inquiry revealed that the civil engineering company commissioned will move the box closer to the edge of the sidewalk within the next few days. But at the expense of electricity customers!

Maybe the workers will manage to use a commercially available spirit level for this…
