A motorcyclist was killed this morning in a serious accident on the Geerstraat between Vaassen and Nijbroek. The victim crashed into a tree and died on the spot.
Local residents heard a loud bang around seven o’clock and later saw to their great horror where it came from. A motorcyclist had hit a tree head-on and ended up in a ditch.
It is not clear exactly how that happened, but a van on the spot also suffered significant dents and the driver was taken away by the police. He may have been involved in the accident. It soon became apparent that the consequences were serious: debris was scattered all over the roadside and the engine itself ended up a few meters further in the garden of a farm.
Emergency services turned out en masse, including a trauma helicopter, but in the end they turned out to be unable to do anything for the victim. The Geerstraat is completely closed for (track) investigations by the police. That will certainly last until the end of the morning. Until then, the road will remain closed.
