Tennis: Bitter British day at Wimbledon

The British hopefuls Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu were eliminated on the third day of the Wimbledon tournament.

The two-time champion Murray, who managed to catch up with the world leaders again despite an artificial hip and was last in the final in Stuttgart, was defeated by John Isner (USA) 4: 6, 6: 7 (4: 7), 7: 6 (7 :3), 4:6.

For US Open winner Raducanu, the end came against French Caroline Garcia, who had triumphed at the preparatory tournament in Bad Homburg. The 19-year-old lost 3-6, 3-6. Since the sensational triumph in New York, the advertising star with Chinese and Romanian roots has been looking for success. Most recently, Raducanu suffered from a rib injury.

Murray left the field as a loser for the first time in the ninth duel with service giant Isner, who served 36 aces. At his 14th Wimbledon tournament, the two-time Olympic champion from Scotland missed the third round for the first time.

So far, only Boris Becker (14), Novak Djokovic (16), Jimmy Connors (17) and Roger Federer (18) have survived their second round match at the All England Club more often than Murray.
