Europe’s top golfers back in Germany at the start

After a five-year break, Europe’s top female golfers are teeing off again in Germany. The Amundi German Masters begins this Thursday in Michendorf, Brandenburg, southwest of Berlin.

126 female golfers start on the demanding par 72 south course of the Seddiner See Golf and Country Club. The tournament of the Ladies European Tour is worth 300,000 euros and ends on Sunday.

One of the stars at the German Masters is Esther Henseleit. The 23-year-old from Hamburg usually plays on the LPGA Tour in the USA. “I can hardly wait for a professional women’s tournament to finally take place in Germany again,” said Henseleit. “It will be my first professional event in my home country and I’m really looking forward to teeing off in Berlin.”

In addition to the Hamburg player, the German golfers Olivia Cowan, Karolin Lampert, the Swede Julia Engstrom and the 18-year-old Slovenian Pia Babnik, who took third place at the first major of the year in California, are among the favorites to win the tournament. Also at the start: 22-year-old Swede Linn Grant, who has already had three successes this LET season and made history at the Scandinavian Mixed when she impressively prevailed against the men’s competition on the DP World Tour.
