Medhi (Rayane Bensatti) is 30 years old living in banlieu Parisian, the outskirts of the French capital from which it seems impossible to leave. From the beginning, it manages to avoid the usual checks on documents thanks to the captivating smile and a good tip. The kind manners and lavish donations, however, do not deceive the attentive and awake receptionist Elena (Anne Serra). With discretion and perseverance, she keeps an eye on him and it is clear from the start that their relationship will be a source of trouble on several fronts.
Medhi spends his first days in Monte Carlo as if he were a child in the land of toys. For the first time, savor the thrill of a rich, carefree life immersed in luxury. Despite the risk of getting lost in that world that has always been distant, but now at hand, he does not lose sight of the goal.
Thus begins to attend the casino game tables. He is a careful observer, he studies the opponent waiting for the right moment. His tactic, however, doesn’t work with Elena. The girl does not hide her perplexities and more than once confronts him in search of plausible explanations. In between questions, they go to dinner together.
Medhi discovers the truth
At the restaurant, Elena explains to him why she doesn’t like poker: her father is a compulsive gambler. Will it really be like this or is it just a tactic to unmask the self-styled Moroccan prince? Meanwhile, once back in the hotel, friction gives way to passion and the two spend the night together.
It doesn’t take much to understand that the relationship could be a harbinger of something more than a simple adventure. Unfortunately, neither is actually who they say they are and lies risk ruining everything. Elena is from Monaco, she lives in the hotel where she works as a receptionist, but the hotel is not just the workplace. It is something more, much more, that binds her to her family.
Medhi discovers the truth. An altercation arises with Elena’s father, Monsieur Zimmer (Antoine Duléry), who is also willing to give him money as long as he leaves his daughter alone. Nothing to do, because, despite his appearances, Medhi is a boy of heart, only tried by the difficulties of life.
What will happen? Will they be able to find a meeting point between the sparkling luxury of the Principality of Monte Carlo and the sometimes gray everyday life of the suburbs on the outskirts of the Ville Lumière? Most importantly, will he be able to win the game of his life, so that he can give his mother a home?
The classic romantic comedy
Once upon a time in Montecarlo and the classic romantic comedywith fairly predictable key steps. The main characters start as antagonists, but end up rediscovering themselves in love of each other. Obviously, as in all romantic comedies, there is the unexpected. In this case, represented by multiple factors, first of all the lie invented by Medhi.
Added to this are Elena’s omissions, perhaps in some ways as serious as those of the fake prince, and the relationship between Medhi and Mr. Zimmer. Will they be able to ease the tension on all fronts? Will the happy ending come to them too?
