“still has potential”
SC Freiburg can now rely on the services of St. Pauli’s top player Daniel-Kofi Kyereh (26). The Breisgauer announced the transfer on Monday, which is said to bring the Hamburg record revenue from a player sale with a fee of 4.5 million euros. The sports club did not announce a contract term. VfB Stuttgart, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Union Berlin and Besiktas Istanbul were recently traded as other candidates for the transfer. Werder Bremen also expressed interest.
New with Kyereh: The most expensive newcomers to SC Freiburg
“Kofi has an exceptional amount of creativity with the ball, is intelligent and goal-oriented. These qualities will help us and do our game good,” explained SCF board member Jochen Saier. “He is a player who has developed step by step over the past few years and has quickly adapted to each higher level. Kofi still has potential and his game can be even more complete – we will work on that together.”
Kyereh said: “I’m impressed by SC Freiburg’s style of play, appearance and development. I have therefore decided with full conviction to become part of this team and am full of anticipation for the upcoming games in the Bundesliga and Europa League.” The Ghanaian international scored twelve goals in 32 competitive games for the Braun-Weißen last season shot and delivered ten assists.
At FC St. Pauli, head of sport Andreas Bornemann said: “Kofi came to us from Wehen Wiesbaden two years ago and has made an outstanding development. The fact that he is now a national player, is now moving to the Bundesliga and will probably soon also be playing in the Europa League is an absolute success story for him personally, but it is also confirmation of the work that we do at FC St. Pauli. So on the one hand we are sad to give up Kofi, but on the other hand we are proud of him.”
