Steffel expresses himself after the election defeat

Frank Steffel lost the election, he will not be the new Hertha President. After the defeat, he speaks up.

Frank Steffel has lost the election as president of Hertha BSC. At the general meeting on Sunday, 1,280 votes were not enough for him. Instead, ex-Ultra Kay Bernstein won the election and is now president of the capital club.

“I wasn’t aware of such a deep rift at Hertha BSC and the split between the Ultras and the other members to this extent,” Steffel told “Bild” on Monday. Bernstein probably won the election because he has many supporters from the active fan scene.

Steffel continues: “The members of Hertha BSC have made a directional decision. Even if only 1,600 of over 41,000 members voted for it, that is democracy. The question of whether you can organize a company with a balance sheet total of 150 million euros and professional competitive sport is the members of Hertha BSC have to answer.”

What’s next for Steffel?

Steffel did mention in his speech that he would resign as president of the Foxes in Berlin. But it seems like he’ll continue to act in the role for now. The handball club has rejected the resignation offer.

“Then I’ll remain Foxes President until the next election,” said Steffel. This increases in the summer of 2023.
