Serie A: Inter beat Venice FC shortly before the end

Milan (dpa) – As with the sixth Supercup win, Inter Milan also celebrated a last-minute victory in Serie A and scored three important points in the fight for the Italian soccer championship.

Thanks to the goal of ex-Bundesliga professional Edin Dzeko in the 90th minute, Inter defeated the corona-plagued FC Venice 2-1 (1-1) and secured their 16th win of the season. Inter has been undefeated in Serie A since October 16, 2021. Inter Milan (53 points) leads the table with five points ahead of city rivals AC Milan. The third SSC Napoli has 46 points on the account.

Thomas Henry put the visitors, who started with former Bayern Munich player Michael Cuisance, ahead in the 19th minute. Nicolo Barella (40th) equalized before the break. After that, the favorites struggled and found no means against the stable defense of the self-sacrificing guests. But Dzeko redeemed the weak home side with his headed goal shortly before the end.

Inter had defeated cup winners Juventus Turin 2-1 in the Supercup ten days ago thanks to Alexis Sanchez’s late goal in extra time (120+1).
