It is busier in public transport, still quieter than before the pandemic | NOW

Public transport has been used more often since most of the corona measures were lifted in February. But compared to the period before the pandemic, it is still quieter on the trains, buses, metros and trams. Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reports this on the basis of data from the public transport chip card company Translink.

In May this year, 83.5 million people checked in on public transport with an OV chip card. That is 64 percent more compared to the same month in 2021, but 23 percent less than in May 2019.

At the end of February, most corona measures were lifted, including the 1.5 meter measure. A month later, on March 23, the masks were also allowed to take off on public transport.

Even fewer check-ins than before corona
