Marlene Bojer and Michelle Zimmer have ensured the greatest success of German synchronized swimming at the World Championships in the technical freestyle.

On Sunday (06/19/2022) the two made eleventh place in a duet, after Bojer had already celebrated her best career performance in a solo on Saturday as eleventh in the World Cup. The Chinese Wang Liuyi and Wang Qiangyi became world champions. Japan’s Yukiko Inui won the solo title. The Russians, who dominate the world class in synchronized swimming, were not allowed to start because of the invasion of Ukraine.

“fatigue viewed something”

“You could probably see how tired we were. Nevertheless, we were able to improve a lot of things compared to the prelims. We concentrated on eradicating mistakes. That was very important to us.”said 29-year-old Bojer, who is swimming her fifth world championships in Budapest.

Never since the separation of technical and free freestyle in 2007 have there been such good results for the DSV. “We are so happy and grateful that we were able to swim these two finals”said the woman from Munich.

Anticipation of the free program

Now both are looking forward to the free program, which begins on Monday (solo) and Tuesday (duet) with the preliminaries. “It’s a completely different competition, it’s all about individuality and creativity. If we manage to reach the finals there too, that would be a huge success.”said Bojer looking at the duet.

Lukas Märtens won the silver medal in the 400 meter freestyle at the swimming world championships in Budapest.
