Wil Besseling has dropped out after his third round of the US Open. The 36-year-old North Hollander needed 77 strokes for his third round, seven above the track average. This puts him on a total of 9 strokes above the track average and dropped to a shared 59th place.
Besseling competes for the first time in the major in Brookline, Massachusetts. He went round in 71 strokes on the first day, 1 above the track average and repeated that a day later. As a result, he went through to the weekend with a shared 40th place.
In the third round, Besseling started with two bogeys and scored two more shortly after. He hit a double bogey on the tenth hole and another bogey on hole 12. The golfer failed to hit birdies.
Besseling just missed his first title at the European Open a week and a half ago by finishing second in Hamburg. In the German city, he assured himself of participating in the US Open.
