“The conditions were difficult today,” Verstappen referred to the rain in Canada. “We stayed calm, made no mistakes and made the right decisions in the end. Anyway, it’s great to ride here again.”
Surprisingly, Fernando Alonso is next to Verstappen in the front row. “The car was mega in these conditions,” said the experienced Alpine driver, who has a lot of respect for Verstappen, and vice-versa. He added with a smile: “I think we’re going to attack Max towards the first corner.”

Verstappen knows that his competitor Charles Leclerc will only start nineteenth after an engine change. His Ferrari teammate Sainz was also fast on his last lap, but lost a lot of time in the last chicane. “I tried to fight for pole position. I think I lost half a second because of that mistake. I think it could be a good fight during the race on Sunday.”
