So the band, which had meanwhile shrunk to a trio, pursued their longings and made a record with LIFE IS YOURS for the big party afterwards. “Life is yours / Break away”, Yannis Philippakis now chants in the title track over shrill staccato synths and percussion clapper.

Or in “2001” he dances at the upper limit of his head voice: “Oh, now the sun is up / High in the sky”, while the funk guitar unerringly catapults back into the disco era. The following applies to LIFE IS YOURS: Feet are on the dance floor, eyes are directed towards the sky. Escapism instead of apocalypse.
No heavy rock riffs. Instead motoric beats, tones, sleek guitars. And: synths, synths, synths. This offers quite good club fodder – “The Sound” is practically a house track – but unfortunately it also quickly becomes monotonous. In the middle of the album, the Afro-pop “Flutter” acts as an interesting stumbling block. But especially in the closing number “Wild Green” the Brits lose themselves in a tension-free synthwave loop. Even for party purposes, Foals debut ANTIDOTES remains the better choice.
