Handball national goalkeeper Andreas Wolff has moved into the final of the Champions League with Vive Kielce. But Veszprem fought back extremely.
The Polish champion prevailed on Saturday (18.06.2022) at the Final Four in Cologne at 37:35 (16:18) against the Hungarian record champion Telekom Veszprem and can do the second on Sunday (6 p.m. / live ticker at sportschau.de). Win the most important international club title.
Moryoto best pitcher
Right winger Arkadiusz Moryto scored eight goals in front of 20,000 spectators in the Cologne Arena and was Poland’s best thrower, who turned the game around thanks to a strong second half. In the second semi-final on Saturday evening (6 p.m. / DAZN), the German record champions THW Kiel, Wolff’s former club, and defending champions FC Barcelona will face each other.
2016 European champion Wolff started between the posts in his Final Four premiere in Cologne, but had to vacate his place after a decent start with two saves. After the break, the 31-year-old got back into action and saved a seven-meter penalty (33′). The action served as an initial spark for the Polish top team.
Turbulent and goal-rich start
The new edition of the 2016 final, in which Kielce stormed onto the European handball throne for the first time despite being nine goals behind, had started turbulently and with many goals. In the meantime, Veszprem got away with three goals and took advantage of mistakes made by the initially weak Kielce defense.
After the change of sides, however, the Poles turned up the heat around exceptional player Alex Duschebajew, and key player Blaz Blagotinsek in defense saw the red card at Veszprem (35′). At 21:20 (36 th ) Kielce took the lead again for the first time since the early stages. The block of Poland, dressed completely in yellow, celebrated every further goal enthusiastically behind Wolff.
