Eugenie Bouchard will not participate in Wimbledon

Due to the lack of world ranking points this year, former Wimbledon finalist Eugenie Bouchard will not take part in the grass classic.

A start in Wimbledon makes no sense for her, the 28-year-old tennis player from Canada wrote on Twitter.

After shoulder surgery, Bouchard, who has since been knocked out of the world rankings, can play a certain number of tournaments with a protected ranking.

However, without gaining ranking points, she cannot work her way back up. She will now exercise her right to start at the US Open and Australian Open.

The Wimbledon organizers had decided not to allow players from Russia and Belarus this year because of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine.

For this reason, no world ranking points will be awarded at the third Grand Slam tournament of the year (June 27th to July 10th) following a joint decision by the ATP and WTA.

Bouchard had reached the final at Wimbledon in 2014 and has not played a game on the WTA Tour for more than a year.
