Retirement provision is an important issue. Not exactly in pop, though. Seen in this way, Don Marco & die kleine Freiheit are writing history with their second album Ewig und Drei Days. Finally a song that actually deals with the reality of life of the aging pop listener clientele: “What should we do when we can’t go on any longer?” asks Markus Naegele in “Bis zur Rente”.

Otherwise there are many sentences for which rock music was not originally invented. “I just want my peace now,” sings the Munich musician, who used to write the lyrics with Fuck Yeah in English, but now, as Don Marco, finally takes the old man’s rock literally. In other words, an old white man and rock ‘n’ roll together don’t act like they’re still hot shit. But the two accept that they are from yesterday and the bones are pretty rotten.
The band, which was backed by the rather old white men Kristof Hahn (Swans, Les Hommes Sauvages) and Tim Jürgens (Die Liga derOrdinary Gentlemen, Superpunk), logically always sounds like they’re a little bit tired, no matter if she plays glam rock, talking blues or soul, a piano ballad or mainstream rock. And now everyone hands off the rollator, clap to the beat and sing along: “Where does this bad mood come from? It’s not difficult for us at all!”
