Shortly before the European Championship in England, the German women’s national soccer team slipped from third to fifth place in the FIFA world rankings.
At the top are the world champions from the USA, who have been leading for a long time, ahead of Sweden, France and the European champions, the Netherlands. This emerges from the publication of the rankings on June 17th.
The selection of national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg surprisingly lost the World Cup qualifier in Serbia 2:3 in April and thus lost points in the world rankings. At the European Championship (July 6th to 31st), the DFB women will meet Denmark (FIFA number 15), title candidate Spain (7th) and Finland (29th) in the preliminary round.
Meanwhile, the number of teams on the list continues to grow, with a total of 181 teams from FIFA’s 211 member associations now represented. There were also Burundi, the Seychelles and the British Virgin Islands.
