Wil Besseling held his own on the first day of the US Open. The golfer went round in 71 strokes on Thursday’s first day, 1 above the course average.
Besseling scored four bogeys, but also three birdies. This puts him in a joint 42 place for the time being.
For the 36-year-old golfer, the number 255 in the world, it is his first-ever appearance in a major. He is also the first Dutchman to participate in the famous Country Club in Massachusetts since Joost Luiten in 2015. He then finished 39th.
Besseling just missed his first title at the European Open a week and a half ago by finishing second in Hamburg. In the German city, he assured himself of participating in the US Open.
Canadian Adam Hadwin leads with 66 strokes. The US Open lasts through Sunday.
