Due to a corona outbreak, the Jumbo-Visma cycling team from the Tour de Suisse withdrawn. Other racing teams are affected with individual drivers. The fifth stage whirled the overall standings upside down.
A statement from Jumbo-Visma on Thursday (06/16/2022) said: “The reason for this is that, despite all the precautionary measures, Corona has crept into the team again.” It was not announced who was infected by the seven professionals participating in the tour.
Also DSM and Ineos Grenadiers affected
The DSM team reported that the Danes had left due to the corona virus Soren Kragh Andersen and Casper Pedersen as well as the Dutchman Cees Bol. With the team Ineos Grenadiers became the Brit Adam Yates tested positive and removed from the race.
Russe Vlasov now ahead in the overall standings
Not only because of the failures, the top of the overall classification was mixed up after the end of the stage. The new leader is the Russian Alexander Vlasov from the German Bora-hansgrohe team, who won the stage after 190.1 kilometers in Novazzano in a sprint in a leading group and the British Stephen Williams replaced as wearer of the yellow jersey.

The best German was Vlasov’s teammate Maximilian Schachmann, who had recovered well from his fall on Tuesday, in ninth place, six seconds behind.
Mountain arrival at 6th stage
The sixth stage on Friday leads over 177.5 kilometers from Locarno to the mountain finish at Moosalp at an altitude of 2,048 meters. With the 2,478 meter high Nufenenpass, another mountain of the highest category is on the program beforehand. the Tour de Suisse ends on Sunday with an individual time trial in Vaduz.
