The municipality of Coevorden has 4.53 million euros left over after last year. 754,000 euros of this was intended for corona support, but has not been used. That money will remain available to absorb the losses due to the corona crisis in 2022. The rest goes into the municipal piggy bank. This is evident from the 2021 annual accounts.

Although the remaining ‘corona money’ is no longer used much, alderman Steven Stegen still keeps a finger on the pulse: “You don’t know what corona will do next summer and this autumn. to have cash.”

“In addition, that money is still occasionally used to offer support”, the alderman for finance indicates. “Think, for example, of contributions to give entrepreneurs’ associations in the municipality some air. Before we put that directly in the general reserves, I think it would be wise to wait for the coming winter and see how health will be in our country. go.”

In addition to the corona support, a few incidental windfalls are the reason for the surplus in 2021. One of these is the payment of benefits, which leaves the municipality with 1.28 million euros. Another major positive result is participation funds, for example for sheltered employment Emco and reintegration projects. The municipality records a benefit of 590,000 euros on this.

On the item tourist tax, 311,000 euros seems to have been written off more than expected. Because the final figures for 2021 are not yet known, the municipality is sticking to the figures for 2020. The central government has promised that compensation for lost income will also be made over 2021, but how such an amount will be will only be determined in the future. clear in the fall.

The annual accounts were discussed by the municipal council in the committee meeting. All political groups agreed to replenish the general reserves and keep the corona funds available.
