Jan Smit has absolutely no need to return as a coach in The Voice of Holland, if the program returns on the tube at all. “No, because I deliberately stopped.”

The twelfth season of The Voice of Holland was abruptly taken off the tube in January because of the revelations about abuse of power behind the scenes. Jan Smit was one of the coaches in the eleventh season. That is the last fully completed season of the talent show. He then formed a jury with Ali B, Anouk and Waylon.

John not heard

Has Jan actually heard about the abuse scandal? “No. Yes, I was already gone by then. I was there for three months in the corona time, in which we were not even allowed to greet the candidates because everything was remote, so that didn’t have much ehhh…”, he says in Humberto Tan’s talk show.

The abuse of power also played out during his season, didn’t it? “I do not think so. I think it was about a whole period of about seven years ago and way before that, so that was not in my time. I have not been heard.”

“No more Voice!”

Would Jan see a return in The Voice? “No, because I deliberately stopped. No, no, I don’t think so. I gave it a lot of thought, about why I wanted to stop after one season.”

Why? “I really enjoyed it, let me put that first – we really had a lot of fun – but eventually you’re doing other things and then you have to fit it back in and I just don’t want to do that much more.”

Spotlights

It would be much too busy now, says Jan. “Then there was just nothing, so it was a good moment for me to just come back a bit. I hadn’t done anything for a year and just wanted to get used to the spotlights again. That was actually the main reason.”

Did he attend Anouk’s wedding this weekend? “I was not invited. I did send her a message.”
