Handball EM: Sweden clearly beats Poland, Spain narrowly wins – Handball EM – Handball

On the second day of the game in the main round group II, in which the DHB team also plays, the Scandinavians were able to switch to gentle gear early on and won in the end with 28:18 (14:6).

Everything clear at the break

With the win early on Friday evening (02/21/2022), coach Glenn Solberg’s team got their third and fourth points and is in a good position in the race for the semi-finals. The vice world champion started the main round without a point after losing to Spain in the preliminary round, but is now keenly involved in the race for one of the first two group places, which means qualifying for the round of four.

Already at the break, Jim Gottfridsson and Co. were so comfortably in the lead that Solberg was able to rest one or the other player for the tightly scheduled tournament. Three players, including Flensburg’s Hampus Wanne, scored four times for Sweden. For Poland, Arkadiusz Moryto and Przemyslaw Krajewski were the top scorers with five goals each.

Spain remains flawless

Spain were lucky enough to keep their clean slate against a strong Russian team. In the early game, the Russians led the Iberians for much of the second half. But they were too calm at the back, had luck on their side and won by a hair’s breadth with 26:25 (12:11).

Thanks to the success, Spain sits at the top of the group with six points out of a possible six. It was the second defeat of the tournament for the Russians, they have two points under their belt, but now they absolutely have to win their two remaining games and hope for certain table constellations to still have a chance of reaching the semifinals.
