The International Football Association (FIFA) has rejected Chile’s complaint against the Ecuadorian national team.
According to Chile, he is a national team player in Ecuador Byron Castillo would have been unrepresentable in the World Cup qualifiers. The reason for this was Castillo’s birth in Colombia, and that he would be three years older than official documents say.
Ecuador finished fourth in the South American World Cup qualifiers, giving it a direct place in the World Cup in Qatar.
If Fifa had found Castillo unrepresentable, the team’s results in the qualifiers would have been disallowed in the matches he had played. This, in turn, would have lifted Chile to further qualifying.
Chile dropped out of the Games after finishing seventh in the qualifiers. In addition to Ecuador, Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay took direct places.
Peru could also still make it to the World Cup from South America if it defeats Australia in the qualifiers for next Monday.
The World Cup for Men will start in Qatar in November. Ecuador plays in the same block with Qatar, Senegal and the Netherlands.
