Mike Snoei thinks Telstar should be ambitious next season. The brand new trainer told that this morning in the NH Radio Sportcafé. “Every match should not be about the lowest budget,” says Snoei.
“It has been going on for a while,” the new trainer begins. “It then gets under your skin, because it is a club that I have very fond memories of. Telstar gave me the opportunity in 2017 after I worked abroad for a while.”
After two seasons, Snoei left for De Graafschap, despite a permanent contract. “That is the big brother of Telstar. I saw that as a wonderful step forward, but not everyone understands that. The club also received 50,000 euros for it.”
Telstar is looking for technical manager
Chris B. van der Zwan of the Technical Committee already worked “excellent” with Snoei at the time. “Mike did not leave us in full glory. That has muddied a bit for both of us. But in his working method he did provide openness and clarity.” Van der Zwan indicates that Telstar will be looking for a technical manager instead of a technical director in the near future.

It is now important to achieve better results with the White Lions after last season’s nineteenth place. “Every game shouldn’t be about the lowest budget,” says Snoei. “We can take FC Eindhoven as an example. Snoei emphasizes that predecessor Andries Jonker has done a good job with a women’s team and three shadow teams: Under 21, Under 18 and Under 16. New players do have to come. “Names aren’t that important. This is a team that needs more leadership. Some more guys made of fish and steel, who understand the mentality and are more physical.”
Players wanted Jonker back
On Thursday, a letter from the players’ group suddenly became public, asking for Jonker’s return. “That turned out to be an accident,” says Van der Zwan. “Captain Glynor Plet has spoken to the players. There was panic that there was no trainer yet. That has now been ironed out with him. They are all wildly enthusiastic.”
Snoei does not mind that the players wanted to see Jonker again. “So the group has worked well with him. That deserves a compliment for the trainer and for the players.”
