Terror suspects receive up to 16.5 years in prison for plans to attack LGBTI festival Inland

The highest penalty was handed out by the court in The Hague to Wail el A. (24) from Rotterdam. He was sentenced to 16.5 years in prison. In addition to planning an attack and being a member of a terrorist organization, El A. was found guilty of shooting at officers, even with a weapon that had already been disabled by the police officers. The Public Prosecution Service had demanded twenty years in prison against El A.

Co-suspect Shevan A. (33) from Arnhem was sentenced to five years and ten months in prison by the court. The Public Prosecution Service had asked for eight years in prison. Morat M. (25) from Vlaardingen was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison instead of the required thirteen years.

The Rotterdam court sentenced the trio together with three others in 2020 to prison terms of ten to seventeen years. Three perpetrators, including prime suspect Hardi N., accepted their sentence. The three others appealed, but were convicted again on Tuesday.
