Berlin (dpa) – With the new coach Edin Terzic and targeted reinforcements, Borussia Dortmund can end the dominance of series champions FC Bayern Munich in the opinion of record national player Lothar Matthäus in the coming season.
For him, Terzic has been “a kind of face of Borussia Dortmund since winning the DFB Cup,” wrote the 61-year-old in his column on Sky. “The club has already signed three German internationals. This is slowly but surely taking shape to really challenge Bayern for the championship.”
“Dortmund has already strengthened itself very well with (Niklas) Süle, (Karim) Adeyemi and (Nico) Schlotterbeck,” said Sky expert Matthäus. “And if Terzic picks up where he left off with the cup win, the energy in this club is positive and everyone pulls together, there will eventually be a change in the development that has been observed in Munich lately Give it a go,” emphasized the 1990 world champion. “The unrest at Bayern will mean that another team can also become champions.”
In the 2021/22 Bundesliga season, which ended in May, BVB finished second behind record champions Bayern Munich – eight points behind and the significantly worse goal difference. Despite qualifying for the Champions League, coach Marco Rose had to leave.
