Düsseldorf with more ball possession, but hardly any chances
In the repeat of last year’s final, Emma Hessler had the first good chance of the game, but just missed the Mannheim goal. Düsseldorfer HC dominated the game, but neither of the two finalists was able to create further scoring chances from the game in the first quarter. The first corner of the game came 32 seconds before the end of the quarter for DHC, but Lisa Schneider in the Mannheim goalkeeper was able to parry the attempt.
In the second half of the game, the game shares were balanced, but goal chances remained scarce. As in the first half, there was a corner for Düsseldorf shortly before the end, but again this did not pose any real threat to the Mannheim goal. As a result, the score at half-time was 0-0.
Mannheim turns up the heat at the end
After five minutes in the third quarter, the defending champions received two corners in a row, but again couldn’t put the ball in Mannheim’s goal. Furthermore, there were hardly any chances out of the game. Düsseldorf again had more of the game, but also had to end this quarter without a goal.
Mannheim had their first good opportunity in the last quarter after an early corner, when they just missed the goal. Shortly thereafter, Aina Kresken had the 1-0 for Mannheim on her bat, but shot just wide of the Düsseldorf goal on the right. Mannheim was now clearly better and looked more dangerous than both teams in the previous three quarters. However, since the MHC also failed to score, the final went to a penalty shootout.
Von der Heyde the tragic figure in Mannheim
Lucina von der Heyde missed the first Mannheim penalty. Helen Stoffelsma scored for Dusseldorf. Charlotte Gerstenhöfer made it exciting for Mannheim with her penalty, but scored in the margin. After Elisa Gräve missed for DHC, Sonja Zimmermann safely converted for Mannheim. Strauss equalized for Düsseldorf to 2: 2. Clara Badia Bogner got a seven-meter penalty for Mannheim, but von der Heyde missed it. Instead, Selin Oruz gave the DHC a 3-2 lead. Mannheim now had to score, but Stine Kurz shot wide of the target.
