At the baseball game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday (May 30), unusual sounds were heard: Five Depeche Mode songs rang out from the stadium announcers. Dieter Ruehle, organist of the Dodgers, paid tribute to the late keyboardist Andy Fletcher. The American Ruehle intoned the songs “Never Let Me Down Again”, “Strangelove”, “Master and Servant”, “Behind the Wheel” and “Walking in my Shoes” on his organ.
“Never Let Me Down Again in tribute to Andy Fletcher” and “#FarewellFletch” are how Ruehle subtitled the clip for “Never Let Me Down Again”.
One of his followers pointed out on Twitter that Depeche Mode has a history connected to Dodgers Stadium: in 1990 the band played two sold-out concerts there as part of their “World Violation” tour.
Andy Fletcher passed away on May 26 at the age of 60. A cause of death was not given, but he died of natural causes. Band colleagues Dave Gahan and Martin Gore, as well as ex-colleague Alan Wilder, were “infinitely sad” or “shocked” by Fletch’s death.
