The German national handball team is plagued by corona infections at the European Championship. Before the main round match against Spain, things get strange – at the last second.
Germany’s handball players can surprisingly fall back on backcourt player Christoph Steinert in the first European Championship main round game against defending champion Spain. The 32-year-old, who tested positive for the corona virus on Wednesday, unexpectedly made himself available to national coach Alfred Gislason’s team in Thursday’s game.
According to the association, all tests carried out on the professional from Bundesliga club HC Erlangen afterwards were negative, so that he was given the go-ahead just before kick-off. Steinert then grabbed his sports bag and walked from the team hotel into the hall where the German team was already warming up.
