During a one and a half year investigation into people smuggling, the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee in Coevorden arrested several suspects in smuggling transports.
The investigation was part of a major international investigation into people smuggling via the so-called Balkan route. The investigation was conducted in collaboration with investigative services from Austria, Germany, Hungary, Romania and Serbia.
A total of 134 arrests were made, the largest number in Austria. The investigative services found more than 900 smuggling incidents in the investigation, most of them in Austria and Germany. Last Wednesday, 151 homes were searched in five countries. Among other things, 900,000 euros were seized.
